GNAC Players of the Week: January 18

Andrea Dirksmeir (Women's Swimming, Simmons), Bryan Rouse (Men's Basketball, Emerson), and Kendrea Walker (Women's Basketball, Albertus Magnus) have been named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Players of the Week.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Women's Swimming - Amanda Dirksmeir, Simmons, Jr., Marshfield, Mass.

Dirksmeir set new pool and school records on the 3-meter springboard with a score of 223.00 against Mount Holyoke on Jan. 16.  Dirksmeir's time bested the Simmons school record of 220.35, set in 2001 and pool record of 219.15, set in 2009.  She received first place finishes in both the 3-meter and 1-meter diving events to collect 12 points for the Sharks, who were defeated 161-128 by the Lyons.  This is the first time this season that Dirksmeir has been named as a GNAC Player of the Week.  The Sharks will return to the pool on Jan. 30, when they swim against Western New England College.

Men's Basketball - Bryan Rouse, Emerson, Sr., East Greenwich, R.I.

Rouse scored his 1,500 career point to lead Emerson to a 3-0 GNAC week, including a road victory over pre-season favorite Albertus Magnus, 75-74, on Jan. 12.  The Lions also defeated Lasell, 83-75, on Jan. 14 and Emmanuel, 63-52, on Jan. 16.  Rouse shot 44% from the field and 73% from the free throw line, scoring 23 points against Albertus Magnus, 37 points against Lasell, and 22 points against Emmanuel.  Rouse also had one blocked shot and two steals for the week.  Rouse is currently ranked 4th in the GNAC, averaging 19.2 points per game.  Emerson is currently tied for 1st place in the GNAC with a conference record of 7-1 and an overall record of 10-5.  Emerson next faces off against Suffolk on Jan. 25.

Women's Basketball - Kendrea Walker, Albertus Magnus, Jr., New Haven, Conn.

Walker had a double-double in each of the Lady Falcon's victories last week.  Walker scored a game-high 36 points and 11 rebounds to lead Albertus Magnus to a win over St. Joseph (CT), 99-68, on Jan. 16.  The junior center added 18 points and 13 rebounds against Mt. Ida on Jan. 14.  The Lady Falcons defeated the Mustangs, 87-70, for their first  GNAC victory of the season.  Walker also had 2 blocks and 5 steels for the week.  Walker is leading the Lady Falcons in points (17.5 ppg) and rebounds (12.0 rpg) this season.  This is the first time this season that Walker has been named as a GNAC Player of the Week.  Albertus Magnus is currently in a four-way tie for 1st place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 4-1 and an overall record of 7-9.  The Lady Falcons next take the court against Connecticut College on Jan. 26.
