The Great Northeast Athletic Conference has named Norwich
University’s Amanda Cuiffo and Mount Ida College’s
Joseph Campbell to the NCAA Division III Championships Regional
Advisory Committee. GNAC Commissioner Joe Walsh appointed Cuiffo to
become the GNAC’s women’s volleyball representative and
Campbell will serve as the women’s soccer
representative.
Commissioner Walsh stated that he selected Cuiffo and Campbell
because of their “commitment and knowledge to the sport and
Division III, and the professional manner in which they represent
themselves on and off the field.” Walsh believes that
representation on the RAC is “hugely important to the GNAC
because it gives us a seat at the table for opportunities for
post-season play. In addition, the people who represent the GNAC
reflect so positively regionally that people have good things to
say about the GNAC.”
Cuiffo, the head women’s volleyball coach at Norwich
University, is also in her fourth year as Assistant Athletic
Director and Senior Women's Administrator.
Campbell is in his eighth year as the head coach of the Mount Ida
College women’s soccer team, and is pleased to be the
GNAC’s new women’s soccer representative to the RAC.
Campbell stated, “I am delighted about my appointment and
honored that Mr. Walsh recommended me. The GNAC is a tremendous
conference and this is a great opportunity to me to represent the
conference at the national level.”
The Regional Advisory Committee is comprised of individuals who
work full-time at NCAA member institutions. Committee members are
appointed by conference officials to represent their conference in
each sport that the conference sponsors. Conferences are grouped
regionally and members of the RAC assist in the evaluation of
teams, officials, and sites during the championship selection
process. While the RAC does not have the authority to select teams
or individuals to participate in NCAA championships, the RAC does
advise the governing sports committee in making tournament
selections, as well as ranking teams in the region. Each
representative is responsible for gathering feedback and reporting
on behalf of their conference. RAC members also can serve as NCAA
site representatives at preliminary-round competitions when they
are needed. Committee members serve a consecutive three-year term
and cannot be re-appointed until they have been off of the
committee for three years.
Cuiffo and Campbell join GNAC representatives John Parente of
Johnson & Wales (baseball), Brian Curtin of St. Joseph’s
(men’s basketball), Kyle Dezotell of Norwich (men’s
soccer), Phil McElroy of Emerson (softball), and Simmons
College’s Anthony Price (women’s basketball) and Robert
Rauseo (women’s tennis), all of whom are presently serving
three year appointments on the Regional Advisory Committee.
