GNAC Baseball Weekly Honors: April 5

Bobby Barrett (Suffolk), Jhonneris Mendez (Suffolk), and Nick Marine (Johnson & Wales) have earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference’s Baseball Weekly Honors.

 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

 

Bobby Barrett, Suffolk, Sr., Milton, Mass.

Weekly Totals

Games (2), AB (8), Runs (5), Hits (6), RBI’s (3), Average (.750), Slugging % (1.500)

 

Barrett went 6-for-8 in a double header sweep of Norwich on April 3, including 5 extra base hits and 3 RBIs.  Suffolk defeated Norwich 8-1 in the day game and 14-0 in the nightcap.  Barrett currently leads the Rams in hits (27), triples (3), and is tied for 1st on his team in runs (16) and homeruns (1).  The Rams are currently tied for 1st place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 5-1 and an overall record of 9-9.  Suffolk next faces Roger Williams on April 7.

Jhonneris Mendez, Suffolk, Fr., Roslindale, Mass.

Mendez drove in 7 runs against Norwich in a doubleheader on April 3, including going 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs in the nightcap.  Suffolk defeated Norwich 8-1 in the day game and 14-0 in the nightcap.  Mendez currently leads Suffolk in batting average (.500), slugging percentage (.846), on base percentage (.519), and is tied for 1st on his team in RBIs (13) and homeruns (1).  The Rams are currently tied for 1st place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 5-1 and an overall record of 9-9.  Suffolk next faces Roger Williams on April 7.

 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Marine notched a complete game victory in extra innings against St. Joseph’s (ME) on April 3, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and giving the Wildcats a 7-3 victory over the Monks.  That victory was the Wildcats only win for the week, as Johnson & Wales was defeated by Mitchell, 9-8, on March 31, Salve Regina, 7-1, on April 1, Babson, 4-1, on April 2, and St. Josephs (ME), 11-1, in the second game of a doubleheader on April 3.  Marine is currently tied for his team’s lead in appearances (6), games started (5), and complete games (1).  The Wildcats are currently in 5th place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 2-4 and an overall record of 4-20.  Johnson & Wales next plays Curry on April 6.
