GNAC Baseball Weekly Honors: March 29

Pat Moran (St. Joseph’s (ME)), Mike Pratt (St. Joseph’s (ME)), and Alex Torres (Suffolk) have earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference’s Baseball Weekly Honors.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK 

Pat Moran, St. Joseph’s (ME), Sr., Winterport, M.E.

Moran went 7-14 with 4 runs, 4 RBIs, 2 homeruns and a double in a 3-2 week for the Monks.  The senior two-way player notched 3 multiple-hit efforts during the week and was 3-4 with a two-run homerun and 3 RBIs in a 6-1 win over Suffolk on March 28.  Moran was also the winning pitcher in that contest, striking out 6 batters while allowing only 1 earned run in 5.2 innings pitched.  St. Joseph’s (ME) was defeated by UMass-Boston, 9-8, on March 25.  The Monks swept Rivier, 10-1 and 3-1, on March 27 and split with Suffolk, winning 6-1 and then losing 13-8 in the nightcap on March 28.  Moran is currently tied for 1st in homeruns (2), ERA (3.78), won-loss percentage (1.000), game starts (3), sacrifice bunts allowed (1), sacrifice flies allowed (1), triples allowed (0) and homeruns allowed (0) for the Monks.  He also is ranked 1st for St. Joseph’s (ME) in wins (3), strikeouts (19), and batters struck out wile looking (8).  The Monks are currently in a 3-way tie for 1st place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 3-1 and an overall record of 9-7.  St. Joseph’s (ME) next faces Husson on April 1.

In a 3-2 week for the Monks, Pratt hit .364 (4-11), including hitting a homerun and knocking in 6 RBIs in a 13-8 loss to Suffolk on March 28.  St. Joseph’s (ME) was defeated by UMass-Boston, 9-8, on March 25.  The Monks swept Rivier, 10-1 and 3-1, on March 27 and split with Suffolk, winning 6-1 and then losing 13-8 in the nightcap on March 28.  Pratt is currently tied for 1st for the Monks in homeruns (2) and errors (6).  This is the second week in a row that Pratt has been named the GNAC Rookie of the Week.  The Monks are currently in a 3-way tie for 1st place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 3-1 and an overall record of 9-7.  St. Joseph’s (ME) next faces Husson on April 1.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Torres retired the first 19 hitters he faced as the junior right hander earned a 2-0 victory against Johnson & Wales on March 27.  Torres pitched a complete game and only allowed one hit against the Wildcats.  The right hander was dominant needing only 88 pitches to defeat Johnson & Wales.  He fired first pitch strikes to 19 of the 23 batters he faced, and only went to one three-ball count on the afternoon.  The Rams were defeated by Babson, 12-3, on March 24, and picked up wins against Bridgewater State, 5-3, on March 25, Johnson & Wales, 2-0 and 4-3, on March 27, and split games against St. Joseph’s (ME), losing 6-1 in the first game and winning 13-8 in the nightcap.  Suffolk is currently in a 3-way tie for 1st place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 3-1 and an overall record of 7-8.  The Rams will next face Brandeis on March 31, Bridgewater State on April 1, and will play a doubleheader against Norwich on April 3.
