Suffolk Men's and Women's Soccer Earn NSCAA Academic Award
Both Suffolk University Men’s and Women’s Soccer
teams earned recognition by the National Soccer Coaches Association
of America (NSCAA) as each team received the NSCAA Academic/Adidas
College Team Award for 2008-09. Suffolk is one of only 97
institutions (NCAA Divisions I, II & III) to have both their
men’s and women’s teams named to both lists and is one
of two teams from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) to
do so.
It is the second year in a row Suffolk’s Women’s team
has earned recognition by the NSCAA for team academic performance
under Head Coach Ernst Cleophat. The Rams also received the team
award in 2008. The Rams were one of 326 women’s teams to be
named to the list as they posted a team GPA of 3.00. To be eligible
a team must post a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher
on a 4.0 scale.
It is the first time that a Suffolk University Men’s Soccer
team has earned such recognition by the NSCAA. The NSCAA team
academic award was instituted in 1996. Suffolk’s men posted a
3.07 GPA under Head Coach Andrius Zeikus in 2008-09. There were
just 141 men’s teams who were named to this year’s
list.
