GNAC Weekly Honors for March 2, 2009

Men's Basketball

Player of the Week

Scot Vachon     Saint Joseph's (ME)     Sr     Schenectady, NY
Vachon led the Monks to their first ever GNAC mens basketball championship. In their nail-biting overtime win over Emmanuel, he went for eight points, seven rebounds and five assists, and was named tournament MVP. (Points 27     Rebounds 15     Assists 12)

Rookie of the Week

Javon Williams     Lasell     Fr     Mattapan, MA
Williams averaged 7 points, 11 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2 steals per GNAC tournament game for the Lasers. He had 9 points and 12 rebounds against Emmanuel, including 6 second chance offensive rebounds, adding 4 assists and a block. Against Norwich, Williams had five points, 10 rebounds, and 3 steals. Women's Basketball

Player of the Week

Iman Davis     Emmanuel     Jr     Toms River, NJ
Davis averaged a double-double for the tournament in leading the Saints to their third consecutive tournament crown, and was named MVP. Her 21 rebounds in the semi-finals versus Johnson and Wales is the second highest single game total in GNAC tournament history. (Points 47     Rebounds 31     Assists 8)

Rookie of the Week

Lauren Zaniboni     Emerson     So     San Diego, CA
Led Emerson to second place in the GNAC tournament by shoting .536 from the field with 27 rebounds while adding five blocks and three steals.  Zaniboni named to the All-tournament team. (Points 50     Rebounds 27     Assists 0)

Men's Volleyball

Tri-Players of the Week

Curtis Abram     Emmanuel     So.     San Luis Obispo, CA
The sophomore outside hitter led Emmanuel to an undefeated week, hitting .690, with 22 kills in 29 swings, with just 2 errors.  Abram also picked up 3 digs and 3 blocks, while leading the Saints to a 3-0 win at Mount Ida College on Wednesday night. (Kills 22     Assists 0     Digs 3     Blocks 3)

Dave Rogers     Lasell     Sr     Belchertown, Mass.
Rogers won the Bard Tournament Most Outstanding Player award after leading the Lasers to the tournament Championship Title with 2.89 kills and 2.77 digs per game in the 3 match tournament.  Over the course of the 4-0 week for Lasell, Rogers hit 35% in the week, averaged 2.44 digs and 2.89 kills per set. Zach Hansen     Rivier     Jr     Shelton, CT
Zach Hansen led the #4 Raiders to a 3-0 week, including wins over Division I Harvard and Division II New Haven by leading the offense with an average of 13 assists per game.  In the 3-0 victory over Harvard, Hansen was nearly perfect, directing the offense to an overall .505 hitting percentage and added 5 blocks in the victory. Co-Rookies of the Week

Zack Smith     Lasell     Fr     Agawam, Mass
Smith averaged 8 assists per set for the Lasers in a 4-0 week, leading Lasell to the Bard Tournament Championship and was recognized on the All-Tournament Team.  Smith had 40 assists and 4 digs against Purchase and 27 assists and 3 digs against Bard to lead Lasell to the title. (Kills 6     Assists 104     Digs 8     Blocks 3)

Andrew     Corwin     Rivier     Fr     Sudbury, MA
Drew played his best game to date in a 3 set victory over Division I Harvard.  Drew pue away 9 kills on only 13 attempts with 1 error for a .615 hitting percentage.  Drew played sparingly in the other 2 matches on the week as he set against Emerson and in 1 game played against New Haven he both set and hit during the match.  Overall, Drew hit .684 on the week with 14 kills, 1 error on 19 attempts. (Kills 14     Assists 26     Digs 13     Blocks 2)
