Emmanuel College Student-Athletes Volunteer at Family Fit Day
Charlestown, MASS. - Several Emmanuel College student-athletes volunteered on Sunday, September 28th, at Family Fit Day in Charlestown, MA. A little rain wasn't going to stop dozens of local Charlestown youths from experiencing high-level mentoring on the ball field. The first ever Family Fit Day was held from 3:00-6:30 at Paul Revere Park. This event was run in partnership with the American Heart Association, the Health Center at MGH, and Sport in Society.

The experience was designed for the entire community with programming and activities for all ages. For over two hours, volunteers from Northeastern University and Emmanuel College ran organized exercises and drills for all children, who simply walked on the field ready to have fun. The opportunity to experience and compete in football, soccer, kickball and baseball with collegiate athletes was met with passion and excitement. Whether it was sprinting repeatedly on a 40-yard fly pattern on the football field or matching up in a "kids" versus "big kids" soccer game, healthy living was secretly being applied to all these youths' lives. In addition to what was going on outside, the American Heart Association and Sports in Society workers inside the auditorium provided information and tips on exercise and healthy diet ideas for the parents. There also was information made available about local sports programs, as well as registration materials and schedules. The Saints were happy to donate their time to the local youths in the community and provide a positive and healthy athletic experience. Emmanuel's volunteers included: Samantha Luther (softball), Casey Shevlin (women's basketball), Sarah Palmer-Thompson (softball), Kristen LeBel (women's basketball), Megan Murray (women's volleyball), Stephanie O'Neill (women's volleyball), Diana Grimaldi (women's volleyball), Rob Williams-Hinton (men's basketball), Kristina Marik (women's soccer), Erin Hanlon (women's soccer), Nick Landry (women's basketball manager), Mike DelSignore (men's volleyball), and Torrey Joyner (men's basketball).
