GNAC Baseball Weekly Honors: March 21, 2011

Conor Cavanagh (Lasell), Remy Cohen (JWU) and Devan Jones (Suffolk) have earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference’s Baseball Weekly Honors.

 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Conor Cavanagh, Lasell, Sr., Quincy, MA

Lasell’s Conor Cavanagh led the Lasers offense this week hitting .414, slugging .655, with an on base percentage of .400. Cavanagh’s top performance came against Bethel where he was just one single shy of hitting for the cycle- going 4-5 at bat with two doubles, one triple, and a home run. He rounded up nine RBI and three runs of his own. Over the course of the week, the senior went 12-for-29 with nine runs, 16 RBI, five doubles, 1 triple and 1 home run. Not only was he an offensive star but made 26 fielding putouts with just one error for a 96.2% fielding percentage.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Devan Jones, Suffolk, Fr., Roslindale, MA

Suffolk’s Devan Jones led the team on Suffolk’s spring training trip, where he hit .382 with five extra base hits in eight games. Jones had a great beginning to his collegiate career by hitting a go-ahead grand slam in the sixth inning of the Rams’ 11-7 victory over Curry College. The rookie finished the week leading the team with 8 RBIs and tied the top spot with 13 hits. 

 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Remy Cohen, Johnson & Wales, Fr., Atlantic Highlands, NJ

The Wildcats’ Remy Cohen was outstanding out of the bullpen for Johnson & Wales this past week. The rookie pitcher posted a 2-0 record with one save in four appearances on the week with a 0.00 ERA. Cohen earned the win over WPI with two thirds of an inning of scoreless relief and wrapped up the week with the win over Thomas as the closer.
