MEN'S SOCCER: USJ On Quest For Repeat; Top Seed In Postseason Tournament
WINTHROP, Mass. - Reigning Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) champion University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) collected the regular-season title and earned the right to be the top seed in this year's postseason tournament. The Blue Jays finished conference play with 29 points in GNAC play (9-1-2). They will match-up with intrastate rival and no. 8 seed Albertus Magnus (17 points; 5-5-2 GNAC), who punched their ticket with a 3-1 victory over USJ earlier tonight.
At the two-seed is a Rivier squad (26 points; 8-2-2 GNAC), who closed out regular season play with a 2-1 victory over Colby-Sawyer. The Raiders are riding a six-game win streak and will match-up with no. 7 seed Emmanuel (18 points; 5-4-3 GNAC), who will play the underdog role and look to shake up the bracket after the two finished in a tie earlier in the season.
At the three seed is Regis, who closed out their regular season with a 8-4 conference record for 24 points as they match-up with no. 6 Norwich as the Cadets finished with 20 points (6-4-2) in GNAC play. Regis and Norwich will look to battle it out as the Pride defeated Norwich 3-1 in regular season play.
The final match-up will be #4 Saint Joseph's (Maine) (22 points; 7-4-1 GNAC) and #5 Dean (21 points; 7-5 GNAC) as the Monks shut out the Bulldogs earlier 4-0 this season.
The GNAC Quarterfinals start on Saturday (Nov. 1) with the eight teams going head-to-head. The winners will advance to play in the GNAC Semifinals on Tuesday, Nov. 4 with the prevailing teams competing for the GNAC Championship on Saturday, Nov. 8. The winner of the GNAC Championship match will be named the 2025 GNAC Men's Soccer Champion and earn the conference's automatic qualifier into the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship.
