GNAC Field Hockey Report: Week 1



Libby Pomerleau, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Jr., F - Limerick, Maine)

Pomerleau helped the Monks kick off the season with a pair of wins by scoring three goals in triumphs over Liberty League powerhouse Skidmore College and perennial NEWMAC standout Wellesley College over the weekend. The junior forward scored twice, including the game-winner, in a 3-2 win over Skidmore on Friday and tacked on her third goal of the season in a 7-0 win over Wellesley on Sunday.


Megan Baker, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Sr., GK - Gorham, Maine)

Baker was outstanding in goal for the Monks in wins over Skidmore College and Wellesley College, as the senior netminder tallied 10 total saves while allowing two goals over 140 minutes over the weekend. Baker registered seven saves in a 3-2 triumph over Skidmore on Friday, with one of goals being scored on a wild deflection during a corner after time expired, and steered away three shots in the 7-0 win over Wellesley on Sunday.


Makena Leazer, Lasell (Fr., GK - Nashua, N.H.)

Posted a 1-1 record with 12 saves on 15 shots (.800) and a 1.50 goals-against average in her first two collegiate games. She made six saves in a 2-1 loss Friday night at Nichols before making six saves Saturday afternoon in a 6-1 victory at Becker.



Alie Jones, Colby-Sawyer (Jr., F - Cape Neddick, Maine) - Jones scored a goal in each of the Chargers' two games over the weekend. She notched the game-winner 25 seconds into overtime to lift Colby-Sawyer to a 2-1 road win at Elms. The junior then scored the first goal of a road contest at Gordon, which the Chargers would win 3-2. 

Julia Franzik, Lasell (Sr., M - Wallingford, Conn.) - Scored two goals last week as Lasell split. Both goals came in a 6-1 at Becker, scoring the first two goals of the game in the first half (21:28 and 27:05), including the game-winner.

Linsey Roth, Rivier (Sr., F - Tyngsboro, Mass.) - In her first game of the season, Roth had three goals for six points in a 9-0 win at Dean. 

Emma Rutledge, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Fr., F - Alfred, Maine) - Rutledge played a big role for the Monks in their 2-0 start to the season, as the freshman forward played well in a 3-2 win over Skidmore  on Friday and broke through with a goal and two assists for four total points in a 7-0 victory over Wellesley College on Sunday.
