Suffolk University Women's Tennis Tabbed Preseason Favorite

Boston, Mass. – The Suffolk Rams came out on top of the 2008 Great Northeast Athletic Conference women’s tennis coaches’ preseason poll.  The Rams earned seven first place votes for a total of 56 points to outdistance themselves from the rest of the field.

Under the direction of Head Coach Steve Counihan, Suffolk enjoyed the program’s most successful season last fall, with a perfect 14-0 record and capturing both the Great Northeast Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles. Counihan will welcome back an experienced squad from 2007, including a pair of first-team all-conference selections in senior Kellie Sturma (Newman, GA) and junior Kaitlynn Cates (Middlebury, CT and two second-team all-conference selections in junior Catarina Rosa (Fall River, MA) and Co-Rookie of the Year Alex Hernandez (Newton, MA).

The Sharks (6-1 GNAC) were ranked second in the preseason polls. The Sharks were three straight winners of the regular season and tournament GNAC titles prior to the 2007 season. Emmanuel was picked #3 and Johnson & Wales following close behind at #4.
