NEW HAVEN, Conn. (September 29, 2012) – The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer program has a new all-time leader in assists. With an assist against Norwich University on Saturday, senior Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.) surpassed former record holder Sam Gigliotti (2007-10) and etched her name into the Falcons' record books. The assist was Figueroa's 14th of her career and her third of the 2012 season.
The record setting assist came in the 84th minute of the match, and put an exclamation point on a dominating 4-0 Falcons victory over the Cadets of Norwich. Figueroa placed a perfect pass onto the foot of teammate Amanda Roke (Cheshire, Conn.) who did the rest, scoring her fifth goal of the season. Figueroa received a standing ovation from the crowd following the match in honor of her record breaking performance.
In addition to becoming the all-time leader in assists, Figueroa also sits in second place in both points and goals in the Falcons' record books. Standing in Figueroa's way is former Falcon Sam Gigliotti, who holds the records in both points with 75 and goals with 31. Prior to Figueroa taking over the lead in assists, Gigliotti held the all-time program lead in all three major offensive-stat categories. As of today's contest, Figueroa has amassed 69 career points and 28 career goals, leaving her just six points and three goals shy of Gigliotti's record numbers.
Figueroa will have a chance to add on to her assists' lead in the Falcons' next game on the road against St. Joseph's College of Maine on Wednesday, October 3.
