Two GNAC Women’s Soccer Players Named To NSCAA All-Region Team

Two GNAC juniors, Kate McKenna (Holyoke, Mass.) from Emmanuel College and Ashley Sanford (Holden, Maine) from GNAC Championship team of Norwich, were named to the 2008 National Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All New England Region team.

McKenna, a midfielder who was named to both the GNAC All-Conference First Team and All-Tournament Team for 2008, was named to the NSCAA All New England Region third team. McKenna led Emmanuel to an overall record of 14-9-0 and a GNAC record of 9-3-0. McKenna netted 11 goals and dished out 9 assists, while starting in all 23 of the Saints’ games.

Sanford, a defender who was named 2008 GNAC Defensive Player and also a GNAC All-Conference First Team selection, was named to the NSCAA All New England Region fourth team. Sanford led Norwich to the program’s first Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship this year and the Cadets’ first-ever NCAA appearance. She helped the team go 15-5-2 overall this season and  9-2-1 in conference play. Sanford was an instrumental component to the Cadets' defense that limited the Norwich opposition to 0.97 goals per game and registered 10 shutouts.
