Dennis Breaks GNAC All-Time Blocks Record

CHESTNUT HILL, MA – Pine Manor College senior Amanda Dennis, with a long-standing reputation of rejecting shots on the hardwood, has now altered the Great Northeast Athletic Conference record book.

In Tuesday’s loss at Albertus Magnus, the 6-foot-1 center, who currently leads the GNAC at 2.7 blocks per game, broke the record of LaTeisha Johnson, who tallied 198 rejections at Emmanuel from 2003 to 2007. Dennis (Haverhill, MA/Whittier Tech) finished with nine points, eight rebounds and five blocks in the 72-54 loss, with the fifth block giving her 200 for her storied career.

Dennis joined Pine Manor lore on December 11, when she became the school's ninth 1,000-point scorer in a 63-59 win over Wheelock, clutching career rebound No. 600 as the final horn gave the Gators the victory. On Tuesday, in addition to establishing the league blocks record, she also passed Liz Sliney for seventh on Pine Manor’s all-time scoring list with 1,160 points and grabbed her 700th career rebound.

The senior pivot has the chance to end her career with over 1,200 points, 700 rebounds, 200 blocks, 100 assists and 100 steals.

Dennis and the Gators are in action again on Saturday, as Johnson & Wales visits Chestnut Hill as Pine Manor hosts its “Pink Zone” game to raise breast cancer awareness on behalf of the Kay Yow/Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Cancer Fund.
