Three GNAC Softball Players Named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District Teams

Three Great Northeast Athletic Conference softball student-athletes earned recognition for their performance in the classroom as well as the athletic field this spring. Emerson junior outfielder Bridget Farago (Oneonta, NY), Suffolk sophomore infielder Monica Cioffi (Easton Boston, MA), and St. Joe’s (ME) sophomore infielder Alyssa Dunn (Standish, ME) were both named to ESPN the Magazine’s Academic All-District teams by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Farago was a first-team selection for District 1. She currently maintains a 3.37 cumulative grade point average as a Writing, Literature & Publishing major. The outfielder was named as a first team All-Conference selection by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference as well as being named to the GNAC All-Tournament team for her strong play in helping Emerson claim the 2009 conference championship.

Cioffi was a third-team selection for District 1. Cioffi currently maintains a 3.725 cumulative grade point average as a Criminology & Law major in Suffolk's College of Arts and Sciences.  Earlier this spring Cioffi was named as a second team All-Conference selection by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

Dunn, also a District 1 third-team selection, has posted an impressive 3.89 cumulative grade point average as a Pre-Med Major at Saint Joseph’s. As one of the elite dual-sport athletes at Saint Joseph’s, Dunn has been recognized with all-conference accolades both in field hockey and softball as a sophomore. For her performance in softball this spring, she was voted to the third team GNAC All-Conference.

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSida) selects Academic All America teams in 12 programs: football, women's volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's track & field/cross country, women's track & field/cross country, men's at large and women's at large. A first team, second team and third team are selected in both the University (Division I and I-AA) and College (Division II, III and NAIA) Divisions.
