JWU, Ramapo Top 2017 GNAC Men’s Tennis Preseason Poll

WINTHROP, Mass. – Johnson & Wales University and Ramapo College have topped their respective divisions in the 2017 GNAC Men’s Tennis Preseason Poll, it was announced by the conference office on Thursday morning. The poll was voted upon by the league's head coaches. 

JWU led the way in the North Division with 21 points and all seven first-place votes, while Ramapo set the pace in the South Division with 28 points and seven first-place nods. Last spring, Ramapo defeated JWU to take home its fourth consecutive GNAC Championship before taking on TCNJ in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. 

The defending GNAC champion Roadrunners will kick off its spring trip to Hilton Head, S.C. for a half dozen matches on March 12.

Hosting duties for the GNAC Final alternates by division yearly, with this year’s North Division representative set to host the title match on Saturday, May 6.

Behind JWU in the North Division was Norwich University with 14 points and Suffolk University with seven points.

In the South, Rutgers University-Camden finished second to Ramapo with 19 points, followed by Rutgers University-Newark with 15 points and Albertus Magnus College with eight points.

Founded in 1995, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 12 member institutions and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Each year, the GNAC sponsors and administers 17 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunities and community involvement.
