2012 All-GNAC Men's Golf Teams Announced

BOSTON, Mass. – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference has announced the 2012 All-GNAC Men's Golf Teams as well as the major award winners, it was announced this morning by the conference office. University of Southern Maine senior Josh Hogan (Falmouth, Maine) has been named the 2012 Player of the Year while Rhode Island College freshman Jonathan Cooper (Berkley, Mass.) was tabbed the Rookie of the Year. Anchormen Head Coach Greg Gammell was named the GNAC Coach of the Year after leading RIC to its second consecutive GNAC Men's Golf Championship.

Hogan bested the GNAC field of 45 golfers at the two-day GNAC Championship played at Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton, Mass. The senior fired away a day-one score of 78 before finishing strong with a day-two 76 to combine for a 154 to win medalists honors and help the Huskies finish second overall.

Cooper, the top rookie finisher in the field, was right behind Hogan with a two-day total of 156. The freshman fired away a day-one 77 followed by a day-two 78 to come in just two strokes off the pace. He helped the Anchorman capture their second straight GNAC title as RIC finished eight strokes ahead of the pack.

Gammell, in his seventh year with the Anchorman, was named Coach of the Year for the second year in a row after guiding his squad to back-to-back GNAC titles. In his tenure at Rhode Island College, Gammell has seen the Anchorman now capture two GNAC championships as well as three second place finishes.
