Mount Ida's Dave Santos Sets School Record and Earns Tournament MVP in Route to a Tournament Championship

Junior guard Dave Santos (Mattapan, MA/Ben Franklin Institute) scored 41 points to lead the Mount Ida College men's basketball team to their first New England College tournament championship against Fisher College this Sunday winning 88-77.  Santos would break the school record for points scored in a game surpassing alumni Josh Didick '04 who netted 40 points at Johnson State College on February 22, 2004.  He would also tie alumni Doug Williams '06 for free throws made in a game with 12.  In two games over the weekend, Santos tallied a total of 54 points, eight boards, five steals, and six assists and shot 52 percent from the floor for the tournament.   Santos was named the tournament most valuable player while freshman Jeff McNair (Brockton, MA/Brockton), who notched 20 points in game one, was selected to the all-tournament team.  The Mustangs open their 2008-09 season with two victories and take home their first piece of hardware on the year with the victory.  Mount Ida is now 2-0 heading into non-conference action at Eastern Nazarene College this Wednesday with tip-off coming at 7:00 p.m.
