Guitian Breaks Lasell College All-Time Scoring Record
Jose Guitian’s name can be found all over the Lasell
College Lasers’ record books, and on January 29, 2009, his
name was marked in history once again. Guitian has become the
All-Time leading scorer in Lasell College men’s basketball
history after breaking the previous record of 1,584 career points,
in a 22 point, 13 rebound performance against Rivier College.
Guitian’s current career total stands at 1,625 and
climbing.
Guitian has been piling on the accolades this season, as he has
broken two Lasell College All-Time records (total rebounds &
total points) and has been recognized four times by the GNAC, twice
by the ECAC, and twice nationally by D3Hoops.com for weekly Player
of the Week honors. No doubt the recognition is deserved as the
6’10” senior from Miami, Florida has finished with a
double-double in 14 of 18 contests this season, and is first or
second in the league in multiple statistical categories, including
rebounding, assist/turnover ratio, blocked shots, and scoring.
Guitian is currently only eight rebounds away from becoming
Lasell’s only athlete to ever eclipse the coveted 1,000
rebound mark. Guitian is currently ranked 2nd in Division III NCAA
national statistics for rebounding, averaging 12.3 boards per game,
and 15th in scoring, averaging 22.1 points per game. After
this week, Guitians stats have increased to 13.9 rebounds per game,
and 23.1 points per game.
The Lasers (12-6/ GNAC 9-2) still have seven regular season GNAC
games to play before the post season starts. Lasell’s
next contest is on Monday, February 2nd, at 7:00 p.m. when they
host Albertus Magnus College.
