Emerson College senior basketball player Ben Chase, of Newburyport, Mass., has been named to the ESPN: The Magazine College Division Academic All-America second team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Chase is one of only 15 Players from NCAA Divisions II and III to be named to one of the three teams.

Chase has been the only three year captain in the history of the Emerson program. A two year starter, Chase is leading the team in scoring this season and has been selected a second team Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Star. This is the second consecutive year Chase has been a first team Academic All-District selection. A double major of Marketing and Television/Video, Chase has compiled a 3.83 grade point average through his college career. He has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week twice this season and has been on the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll three other times. For the week ending January 20, 2008, Chase was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference New England Division III Player of the Week. He was the most valuable player of the Vassar College Tip-off Tournament in 2007. Chase is a member of the Emerson College Gold Key Honor Society, and has been named to the Dean's List (3.7 GPA or better) six of his seven semesters.

Chase is the second ESPN: The Magazine Academic All-America for Emerson, and is also the second men's basketball player chosen. The Lions' Rob Hennigan was a third team pick in 2004.

To be eligible for the teams, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
