Suffolk's Cintolo Named to Capital One Academic All-District Baseball Team
BOSTON, Mass. -- Junior Jake Cintolo (Wrentham, Mass.) of the Suffolk University Baseball team was named to the Capital One Academic All-District team by the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) for the 2013 season.
Cintolo was one of eleven NCAA Division-III players in the New England Region honored for combined excellence academically and athletically with a first team District 1 recognition. He was the lone player this year to be named from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and first Suffolk University player recognized since the 2009 season.
The awards and milestones continue to come in for Cintolo in his third season with Suffolk. He was earlier named a first team All-Conference selection by the GNAC this week.
Currently this season he is hitting .400 (60-for-150). His 18 doubles this season breaks the Suffolk single season program record that he already owned with 17 last year. He holds the all-time Suffolk record with 51 career two-baggers and set the GNAC all-time record (49) on April 24 in Suffolk's 26-6 playoff opening victory over Norwich University as he recorded three that evening.
Entering the week of April 28th Cintolo ranks 10th among all NCAA Division-III players with 60 hits which also puts him second among players within the New England Region. His 18 doubles also lead the region and put him tenth nationally. He also ranks ninth among New England players in runs batted in with 35, while his 41 runs scored are the fifth most locally and 23rd highest total nationally.
Cintolo has previously been selected as a New England Intercollegiate Baseball Assocation (NEIBA) All-Region selection in each of his first two seasons and a GNAC All-Conference selection during those years as well. In 2011 as a freshman he broke the all-time program record at Suffolk recording 77 hits that year. The 2013 season marks the third straight year he has reached the 60-hit plateau. Through 128 career games played, Cintolo has 198 hits which is just 25 shy of the all-time Suffolk program record and 41 from the GNAC all-time mark.
Cintolo currently maintains a 3.46 cumulative grade-point average as a Marketing major in Suffolk's Sawyer Business School.
