AMC's Calechman to Receive ECAC Award of Valor
Former Albertus Magnus College baseball player, Kyle Calechman ’12 has been named one of the three recipients of the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Awards of Valor. Calechman, along with Vanessa Rivera of York (N.Y.) College and Pat Quinn of Stevenson University, will be honored at the 2012 ECAC Honors Dinner held in conjunction with the 24th Annual ECAC Convention and Trade Show, which is taking place Sept. 29 through Oct. 2.

Suffolk's Mendez, Cintolo Earn NEIBA All-New England Baseball Honors
Two Suffolk University Baseball players earned recognition for the 2012 season by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) with All-Region selections. Junior Jhonneris Mendez (Boston, Mass.) was a second team selection at the utility position, while sophomore Jake Cintolo (Wrentham, Mass.)earned third team honors as a first baseman.

STANDISH, ME – The Saint Joseph's baseball team is again ranked second in the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) regional poll and has moved up several spots in a pair of national rankings this week.

St. Joseph’s Of Maine Captures 2012 GNAC Baseball Championship With 7-6 Victory Against Suffolk
East Providence, R.I. -- The top seeded St. Joseph’s of Maine baseball team captured the 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship with a come from behind 7-6 victory against fourth seeded Suffolk in the finals. The tournament was hosted by Johnson & Wales at Pierce Field this weekend. Freshman Nic Lops (South Portland, Maine) was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament after delivering a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth to lead the Monks to the 7-6 victory.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – Top-seeded Saint Joseph's (34-5, 14-2 GNAC) defeated #3 Anna Maria College (22-16, 11-5 GNAC), 6-3, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament semifinal contest at Pierce Field on Saturday afternoon.

2012 GNAC Baseball Playoff Schedule Announced
The 2012 GNAC Baseball Playoff pairings are now available. The St. Joseph’s Maine Monks have already reached a 30 win season, and will clinch the top seed in the playoffs with a remarkable conference record of 14-2, and overall record of 32-5.

Scafidi Sets HR Mark in Sweep of Norwich
Holden, Mass. – Jeff Scafidi (Worcester, Mass.) drilled a fastball to deep left centerfield over the 346 ft. fence at Wachusett Regional for his 14th career home run setting the AMCAT All-Time HR record as Anna Maria swept a doubleheader from visiting Norwich University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference baseball action on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

Jhonneris Mendez Named NCAA Divison III Pitcher of the Week
Suffolk University junior Jhonneris Mendez (Boston, Mass.) was named NCAA Division-III Pitcher of the Week by the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) for the week of April 2-8. Mendez threw a no-hitter in Saturday's 3-0 victory over Lasell College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action. For his efforts Mendez was also named the GNAC Pitcher of the Week, as well as Eastern College Athletic Conference (GNAC) Pitcher of the Week.

Monks Chosen As Top Seed In GNAC Baseball Preseason Coaches' Poll
The 2011 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Champion St. Joseph’s (ME) were picked as to repeat and place first in the 2012 preseason poll. Suffolk was voted to finish second to the Monks while Johnson & Wales was picked to place third the conference. Lasell and Anna Maria were voted to finish fourth and fifth while Emerson rounds out the poll in the sixth.

GNAC Student-Athletes Serve the Community at the 8th Annual Brian J. Honan 5k Road Race
Several Student-Athletes represented the Great Northeast Athletic Conference at the 8th Annual Brian J. Honan 5k Road Race this past weekend, an event that our member institutions have been volunteering at since its inception. The teams contributed to the day’s success by setting up the race day headquarters, taking registrations, working water stations, handing out medals at the finish line, holding mile markers, and cheering on the participants.

Anthony Perry Hired as Rivier Baseball Coach and Sports Information Director
By his count, Anthony Perry has played 50-plus games this summer, suiting up for two clubs, Kingston, N.H., in the North Shore Baseball League, and Malden in the Yawkey League.
