PROVIDENCE, R.I. – In partnership with the Special Olympics of Rhode Island, the Johnson & Wales University Athletic Department will host an on-campus event on April 24th to promote and raise awareness of the efforts and accomplishments of the Rhode Island Special Olympics athletes.

Boston, Mass.- The Great Northeast Athletic Conference opened the week of Monday April 8th, 2013 by celebrating NCAA Division III Week. The week long celebration, running from April 8th through April 14th is a positive opportunity for all individuals associated with Division III institutions to observe and celebrate the impact the of athletics and student-athletes on the campus and surrounding community.

Providence, R.I. – Johnson & Wales University wrestling standout Everet Desilets (Cranston, R.I.) has been named Freshman of the Year at 157 pounds by D3Wrestle.com, announced on Monday.

NORTHFIELD, Vt. —The Norwich University baseball team has been working hard on the practice field to prepare for the Northern portion of its season, but on Friday, March 22, the Cadets put in added work in the classroom, participating in "Read Across America" in the Williamstown School District.

Johnson & Wales Wrestling Team Ranks Fifth in the Nation Academically
Providence, R.I.– The Johnson & Wales University Wrestling team finished the 2012-13 campaign ranked fifth in the nation academically, announced by the National Wrestling Association. This is the third year in a row that the Wildcat’s wrestling team has been ranked in the top-five academically. JWU accomplished this feat by posting an overall team GPA of 3.48.

Suffolk University Participates in "Stand Up for Pink"
For the eleventh year in a row the Suffolk University community has joined together as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month throughout the campus. On Tuesday, October 23 the Suffolk community got together for the fourth annual “Stand Up for Pink” event as a crowd of nearly 300 people joined together donning pink t-shirts forming a human pink ribbon to help show their support and unity towards the cause.

GNAC in the Community - 2012 Brian J. Honan 5K
Allston, Mass. - This past Sunday was a special day for many member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. The Emerson College baseball team, Simmons College cross country & women's basketball teams, Emmanuel College women's basketball and Lasell College volleyball & softball teams volunteered for the Brian Honan 5 K in Allston.

Mount Ida's Meeker Named 2012 ECAC Scotty Whitelaw Sportsmanship Award Winner
Mount Ida senior soccer goal keeper Devan Meeker has been named recipient of the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference Scotty Whitelaw Sportsmanship Award. Meeker will be feted at the 2012 ECAC Honors dinner held in conjunction with the 24th Annual ECAC Convention and Trade Show that will be held September 29-October 2 at the Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa in Groton, Conn. The Honors Dinner is slated for Sunday evening, September 30.

Coming off of an impressive run in the 2011 GNAC tournament, Rivier University received 166 total points and 10 first place votes to land in the top spot of the 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Pre-Season Coaches’ Poll.

With four consecutive GNAC women’s tennis championships to its name, Simmons College was the overwhelming favorite in the 2012 Pre-Season poll, recording 80 out of a possible 81 points with eight first place votes.

EMERSON’S NIKRAVESH NAMED GNAC SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR
The Great Northeast Athletic Conference is pleased to announce that Ken Nikravesh (Geneva, Switzerland) of Emerson College has been named the 2011-12 GNAC Sportsman of the Year. Nikravesh, a 2012 graduate of Emerson, was a four-year member of both the Lions men’s soccer and men’s tennis programs.

GNAC Announces 2011-12 Administrative Award Winners
BOSTON, Mass. – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference is pleased to announced its administrative award winners for the 2011-12 academic calendar year. Presented annually to members of the GNAC, the three recognized honors are Executive of the Year, Sports Information Director of the Year and Athletic Trainer of the Year. All award winners were nominated by someone from within the conference and then voted on by their peers.

2011-12 GNAC Academic All-Conference Announced
BOSTON, Mass. – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the All-Academic Team for the 2011-12 academic calendar year. The squad consists of 631 student-athletes from 14 institutions that have met the following criteria in maintaining a 3.25 cumulative grade point average, completed at least one full season of competition at a GNAC institution and is of sophomore status academically. Congratulations to this year’s recipients!

Jim Nelson, the Director of Athletics at Suffolk University was named 2012 NCAA Division-III AD of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) for the Northeast Region.

Chin to Speak at 2012 GNAC Professional Development Seminar
The Great Northeast Athletic Conference is pleased to announce Jarrod Chin as the 2012 keynote speaker for the 2012 Professional Development Seminar. Chin currently serves as the Director of Training and Curriculum for Sport in Society, a program affiliated with Northeastern University that educates and supports emerging leaders and organizations within sports with the awareness, knowledge and skills to implement innovative and impactful solutions for social change.

Saints in Service
In addition to their success on the playing fields and in the classrooms, Emmanuel student-athletes are actively involved each year in numerous community service and volunteer activities. The College's focus on service learning is a cornerstone routed in the mission of Emmanuel and embraced by the Saints athletic teams. Throughout the 2011-12 academic year, student-athletes engaged in various events, both through individual efforts and as team-bonding activities, which allowed the Saints to give back to the community. The meaningful experiences have taught the Saints life lessons and complimented their classroom learning.
