Askew Named an ECAC Division III New England All-Star
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (March 27, 2012) – Albertus Magnus men's basketball standout Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.) has been named to the ECAC Division III New England All-Star First Team.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (March 27, 2012) – Albertus Magnus men's basketball standout Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.) has been named to the ECAC Division III New England All-Star First Team.
Askew, a D3hoops.com and NABC All-American, finished his career at Albertus with a remarkable senior year. The Hamden native became the first-ever Albertus Magnus men's basketball player to earn the All-America status as he became just the second-ever student-athlete at Albertus to earn the prestigious recognition.
Askew earned numerous accolades in 2011-12, including being named to the D3hoops.com All-Region First Team as he led his Falcons to a 28-2 overall record. He and his teammates also earned the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) title while the program went on to win its second NCAA Tournament game in program history.
Askew became the all-time leading rebounder in GNAC and Albertus Magnus basketball history as he finished his career with 1,192 rebounds, while on January 10, 2012, he became only the second-player ever to record over 1,000 rebounds in the conference. On that date he also became the league's all-time rebounding leader.
With 2,316 career points, Askew became the Falcons' all-time leading scorer, while he was just the second men's basketball player in school history to score over 2,000 points.
Askew was named GNAC Player of the Year as well as GNAC Defensive Player of the Year for his efforts, while he averaged a team-best 24.2 points per game. He was named to both the All-Conference First Team as well as the GNAC All-Tournament Team en route to being named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
Askew joined Western Connecticut’s DaQuan Brooks, MIT’s Mitchell Kates, Middlebury’s Ryan Sharry and MIT’s Noel Hollingsworth on the ECAC New England First Team. Brooks was tagged as the DIII New England Player of the Year, while WPI’s Marco Coppola was named the Rookie of the Year.
