GNAC Rookies of the Week: September 15
Courtney Carter (Womens Cross Country, Emerson), Caitlin Cleary (Womens Volleyball, St. Josephs - Maine), Will Daniels (Mens Soccer, Mount Ida), Amy Desimone (Womens Soccer, Rivier), Kyle Oppenehimer (Mens Cross Country, Emerson), and Sabrina Salmela (Womens Tennis, Simmons) have been named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookies of the Week.
Courtney Carter (Women’s Cross Country, Emerson), Caitlin
Cleary (Women’s Volleyball, St. Joseph’s - Maine), Will
Daniels (Men’s Soccer, Mount Ida), Amy Desimone
(Women’s Soccer, Rivier), Kyle Oppenehimer (Men’s Cross
Country, Emerson), and Sabrina Salmela (Women’s Tennis,
Simmons) have been named Great Northeast Athletic Conference
Rookies of the Week.
Men’s Cross Country – Kyle Oppenehimer,
Emerson, Fr., Kingston, N.H
Placed second in the Travis Fuller meet of 66 runners in his first
intercollegiate cross country meet ever. Was the top finisher of
any runner of the three GNAC teams that competed.
Women’s Cross Country – Courtney Carter,
Emerson, Fr., Hudson, N.H
Was the top rookie of the four GNAC teams in the Travis Fuller
meet with her seventh place finish in a time of 21:21
Men’s Soccer – Will Daniels, Mount Ida, Fr.,
Bethany, Conn.
Mount Ida College freshman Will Daniels notched a hat trick in a
3-1 Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory over visiting
Rivier College this past Saturday. Daniels scored all of his goals
late in the second half including the game winner in the 85th
minute.
Women’s Soccer – Amy Desimone, Rivier, Fr., Methuen,
Mass.
Amy scored the first goal of her career as she helped the Raiders
to a 2-0 victory over U-Maine Farmington. Amy started the game and
played 37 minutes for the Raiders, getting off 2 shots on goal.
Women’s Tennis – Sabrina Salmela, Simmons, Fr.,
Beverly, Mass.
Sabrina Salmela had win at #1 doubles vs. Babson. Lost very close
7-6 set vs. 41st ranked player in the country; Rachel Rosman of
Brandeis.
Women’s Volleyball – Caitlin Cleary, St.
Joseph’s (Maine), Fr., Scarborough, Maine
Cleary collected SJC Autumn Invitational Most Valuable Player
honors after helping the Monks capture the tournament championship
over the weekend. In four matches the freshman notched 34 kills, 20
service aces, and 54 digs. Cleary earned her first collegiate
double-double with 12 kills and 29 digs against Green Mountain in
the title match on September 12th.
