Emerson College Softball Team Named National Academic Champion

The 2009 Emerson College Softball team has been named by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association as the Division III National Academic Champion by virtue of its cumulative 3.531 grade point average. This is the second time in the past three years that the Lions have earned the top spot.

Emerson edged out Peidmont College (Demorest, Ga.) for the top honor. The Piedmont team compiled a 3.530.

Emerson was also the 2007 Division III National Academic Champion. The squad finished fourth in the 2008 rankings.

In addition to the academic honor, the team compiled a 33-11 record, defeated two nationally ranked teams, won the Great Northeast Athletic Conference championship, and competed in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III National Championship Tournament.
