GNAC Softball Honors: March 29

Annie Thompson (Simmons), Danyelle Shufelt (St. Joseph’s (ME), and Courtney Collier (Simmons) have earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference’s Softball Weekly Honors.

 

 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Weekly Totals

Games (6), AB (22), Runs (7), Hits (16), RBI’s (13), Average (.727), Slugging % (1.045)

Thompson was a big reason that the Sharks went 6-0 last week.  Thompson had at least 2 hits in 6 games and made only 1 error in 23 chances at shortstop.  Simmons defeated Mount Ida, 11-6 and 6-3, on March 25, Johnson & Wales, 7-3, 6-5, on March 26, and Norwich, 4-0 and 11-3, on March 28.  Thompson leads the Sharks in batting average (.400), runs scored (10), hits (16), RBIs (10), total bases (18), at bats (40), and assists (25).  Simmons is currently in 5th place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 6-2 and an overall record of 11-4.  The Sharks next face Pine Manor in doubleheader action on April 2.

Shufelt enjoyed an outstanding week, as the freshman right fielder hit .600 (12-20) with 9 runs to help the Monks post a perfect 6-0 record.  She recorded at least 2 hits in 5 games and is currently on a 10-game hitting streak.  Shufelt is tied for 1st on her team in stolen base percentage (1.000), and is ranked 1st in sacrifice bunts (2), 2nd in runs scored (16), hits (22), and stolen bases (3), 3rd in batting average (.415), on base percentage (.426), and steal attempts (3), 4th in strikeouts (6), and 5th in slugging percentage (.415) and total bases (22).  St. Joseph’s (ME) defeated Mount Ida, 8-2 and 8-2, on March 26, Emmanuel, 7-2, 6-4, on March 27, and Suffolk, 2-1, 8-0, on March 28.  The Monks are currently in 1st place in the GNAC, with an undefeated conference record of 8-0 and an overall record of 13-5.  St. Joseph’s (ME) will play doubleheaders against Norwich on April 2 and Johnson & Wales on April 3.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Courteney Collier, Simmons, Jr., Bolton, Mass.

Collier was a perfect 4-0 on the mound this week, pitching 27 innings in 4 days.  She also batted .300 at the plate and made outstanding defensive plays on the mound, robbing multiple batters from hits up the middle.  Collier pitched victories against Mount Ida, 11-6 and 6-3, on March 25, Johnson & Wales, 7-3, on March 26, and Norwich, 4-0, on March 28.  Collier leads the Sharks in earned run average (1.75), won-loss percentage (.667), wins (4), innings pitched (36.0), appearances (7), and sacrifice bunts allowed (3).  Simmons is currently in 5th place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 6-2 and an overall record of 11-4.  The Sharks next face Pine Manor in doubleheader action on April 2.
