GNAC Lacrosse Weekly Honors: April 19

Maeghan Ross (Emerson), Lauren Hagerman (St. Joseph’s (ME)), Rachel Wallace (Simmons), and Meghan Kennedy (Norwich) have earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference’s Lacrosse Weekly Honors.

In 3 Emerson victories, including handing St. Joseph’s (ME) its only conference loss, Ross led the Lions with 13 goals and 7 assists for the week. Ross scored on 3-of-4 free position shots and had 9 ground balls and 7 draw controls last week. The Lions went 2-3 last week, defeating Rivier, 24-6, on April 13 and St. Joseph’s (ME), 18-11 on April 17. Emerson fell to Wheaton, 19-7, on April 15. As of April 15, Ross is ranked 1st in the GNAC in points per game (7.57) and caused turnovers per game (2.29), is ranked 2nd in goals per game (6.00), assists per game (1.57), and shots per game (10.86), is tied for 2nd in game-winning goals (3), and is ranked 3rd in draw controls per game (4.29). This is the 3rd time this season, and 3rd week in a row, that Ross has earned Player of the Week honors. She was previously honored on April 5 and April 12. Emerson finished the regular season in a 3-way tie for 1st place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 7-1 and an overall record of 7-5. The Lions earned the No. 1 seed in the 2010 GNAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship and will face the No. 4 seed Mount Ida Mustangs in the semifinals on April 21.

Hagerman tallied 8 goals, 8 assists, 8 draw controls, 8 groundballs, and 2 caused turnovers for the Monks last week. She notched 2 goals and 5 assists in a 14-7 loss to Southern Maine on April 13, and registered 3 goals and 3 assists in a 19-8 victory over Rivier on April 16. Hagerman, who scored her 100th goal earlier this season, became the 1st player in program history to reach the 200-point plateau when she scored her 2nd goal against Emerson on April 17. The Monks were defeated by Emerson, 18-11. As of April 15, Hagerman is ranked 1st in the GNAC in assists per game (2.00), 3rd in points per game (6.20), 4th in draw controls per game (3.70), is tied for 4th in game-winning goals (2), and is ranked 6th in goals per game (4.20) and shots per game (8.30). This is the 2nd time this season that Hagerman has earned Player of the Week honors. She was previously honored on March 29. The Monks finished the regular season in a 3-way tie for 1st place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 7-1 and an overall record of 10-3-1. St. Joseph’s (ME) earned the No. 2 seed in the 2010 GNAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship and will face the No. 3 seed Norwich Cadets in the semifinals on April 21.

Wallace had 3 groundballs and 2 caused turnovers for the Sharks last week. Her 5 goals and 1 assist performance against Mt. Ida on April 15 was critical to the Sharks 13-12 win. Wallace scored on all 3 of her free position shots. Simmons fell to Framingham State, 20-15, on April 13, and defeated St. Joseph (CT), 20-8, on April 17. The Sharks finished out their regular season on April 19 with an 18-6 victory over Pine Manor. Wallace is ranked 1st on her team in free-position goals (4), 2nd in points (33), goals (26), and shot percentage (.788), and is ranked 3rd in assists (7) and draw controls (16). The Sharks finished the regular season in 6th place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 4-4 and an overall record of 6-6.

Kennedy stopped 15 of the 21 shots that she faced in the Cadets 19-6 win over Rivier on April 18. Norwich fell to Castleton, 11-10, on April 13. Kennedy leads the Cadets with a goals-against average of 7.14 and a save percentage of .500. Norwich finished the regular season in a 3-way tie for 1st place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 7-1 and an overall record of 7-6. The Cadets earned the No. 3 seed in the 2010 GNAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship and will face the No. 2 seed Monks of St. Joseph’s (ME) in the semifinals on April 21.
