GNAC Weekly Honors for December 8, 2008
Lasells senior mens basketball forward Jose Guitian (Miami, Fla.), Rivier junior womens basketball guard Blair Carpenter (Meredith, NH) and Simmon's senior womens swimming member Keri-Ann Areenault (Chester, NH) were selected as the GNAC Players of the Week for December 8, 2008.
BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mens Basketball
Jose Guitian (Senior) - Lasell - Miami, FL
Guitian scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in Lasell's
opening GNAC contest in a 68-57 win over Rivier College. He
also had 28 points and 5 rebounds against no. 10 Amherst
College.
Women's Basketball
Blair Carpenter (Junior) - Rivier - Meredith, NH
Blair had a solid statistical week capped off by a program-record and career-high 38 points(13-28 46% from the floor) on Sunday. The junior is just 2 points shy of reaching the 1,000 point plateau. In addition, the shooting guard averaged 8 rebounds and 2 steals per game. Carpenter shot 87.5% from the charity stripe (14-16) for the week.
BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Men's Basketball
Johrone Bunch (Freshmen) - Mount Ida - Meriden, CT
Freshman Johrone Bunch (Meriden, CT/F.T. Maloney) had a solid overall week leading his squad to a 2-1 record. He also tallied his first double-double as a Mustangs against Fisher College this past Friday night.
Women's Basketball
Rachel Kaye (Freshemen) - Emerson - Wakefield, MA
In her first career start scored 20 points on 50% shooting from the field and from behing the three-point arc, and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw liine, while also dishing out a half dozen assists in Emerson's non-conference victory over UMass Boston in the Lions' only game of the week.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING
Swimmer of the Week
Keri-Ann Arsenault (Senior) - Simmons - Chester, NH
Keri-Ann scored 26 points at the GNAC championship, the
individual high point scorer for the meet. She finished 2nd in the
200 Free, 1st in the 1650 free with a new Simmons College
Pool record & GNAC Championship record (by 30 seconds), 1st in
the 500 free, 1st in the 400 IM, and was a member of the winning
800 Freestyle Relay and the third place 200 Free Relay.
Rookie of the Week
Hannah Gajewski (Freshmen) - Saint Joseph's (ME) - Biddeford,
ME
Gajewski helped St. Joe's to a runner-up finish in the 2008 GNAC
Championships with first place finishes, and new school record
times, in the 200-free (2:05.95) and 100-IM (1:07.02) events. She
also was a member of the 400-free relay team and posted two second
place finishes (1650-free, 19:56.12; 500-free, 5:44.44) at the
meet.
