GNAC Weekly Honors for January 12, 2009

Emerson junior Bryan Rouse was named GNAC men's basketball player of the week, Rivier junior Jess Mellen was named GNAC women's basketball players of the week, and Wheelock sophomore Erin Mullen was named GNAC women's swimmer of the week.

BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Men's Basketball    

Bryan Rouse    Emerson    Jr    East Greenwich, RI
In Emerson's only game of the week, Rouse scored his 1,000th career point early in the first half and went on to shoot 60% from the floor for the game and 100% from the free throw line.  Rouse also added a steal. (Points 21    Rebounds 7    Assists 5)    

                
Women's Basketball

Jess Mellen  Rivier    Jr    Rockland, MA
In a 2-1 week for the Raiders, Mellen simply filled up the stat sheet. For the week, Jess averaged a double-double of 15.67 points and 12 rebounds. In addition, Mellen averaged 5 assists and nearly 3 steals per game. In the conference opener, Jess had 23 points, 17 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks.  (Points 47    Rebounds 36    Assists 15)  
               
               
BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Men's Basketball   

Robert Thurman    Norwich    Fr    Edwards, CA
Thurman scored 13 points, snared nine rebounds and had eight blocked shots in NU's 86-79 win over Mount Ida.  (Points 13    Rebounds 9    Assists 0)  

               
Women's Basketball   

Julianne Conrad   Suffolk    Fr    West Bridgewater, MA
Julianne's 21 point performance helped lead Suffolk to a 58-46 victory over Lesley College, Thursday evening. She also had 6 steals in the game. (Points 21      Rebounds 4    Assists 0)
